Rosy for Rosettes

I am rosy for rosettes! I hope I will not be forever dubbed the "flower lady!"

Rosettes are so beautiful and so easy to make! And they are everywhere these days! Check out my do-it-yourself instructions from a few posts back and try them out yourselves! Put them on shirts, cardigans, necklaces, headbands, clutches, bags, and more!

Here are some of my new items I made with these quick & easy-- yet oh so classy rosettes!

And here is my most recent order: 6 rosette necklaces for an upcoming wedding! The bride sent me a swatch of the bridesmaids dresses so I could match the color of the necklaces to the dresses.

Wedding Boutineer Photos!!

Hi ya'll!! A few posts back, I posted my wedding boutineers I created & shipped out for a Chicago wedding. For the past few months I have been anxiously awaiting pictures of the big day.

And TODAY, the groom sent me some of the pictures from his vintage inspired wedding! The couple, Gena & Andy look like such a fun hipster couple--- and their wedding seemed just the same!
What an experience! I feel so honored to have been able to create something for such a special day :)

Sold! Wedding Boutineers!

Yay!!!! I sold 3 of my boutineers for a Chicago wedding coming up in May (individuals whom I do not know but purchased through my etsy page).

I had so much fun making them! It is so exciting and humbling to think that the groom and groomsmen will actually be wearing something I made on such a special day-- or you can say the most important day of the bride & groom's life.

I hope they love love love them. Hopefully I will be able to get pictures of how the boutineers looked on the guys on their big day.

The "Appendicitis" Necklace?

Would you buy a necklace named The Appendicitis Necklace?

Well, I actually was going to name a necklace that in honor of my oldest sister, Jane, who was stricken with appendicitis last week and had to have it removed. But seeing that "appendicitis" may not be a very marketable name, my new necklace is aptly called, Jane's 'Appie' Necklace (short for the procedure done to remove the appendix).

I especially wanted to nam
e this necklace in honor of my sister because despite her dire post-surgery condition, the VERY NEXT DAY, she waddled around Joanne's with me and my sister Lauren to help me pick out new fabric for my next projects.

Here are the BEAUTIFUL fabrics I bought. These are my favorite colors right now.

Well, here's the final product:
Jane's 'Appie' Necklace

Next, I also made a necklace in honor of my sister Lauren.
I call it:

The Lauren Necklace (clever ey?)
If you notice, you will see the colors are reminiscent of UCLA's school colors, gold & baby blue. All us Kim sisters graduated from UCLA, and Lauren has kept the tradition alive as she is a pediatric resident @ the UCLA Medical Center.

I will be posting my necklaces for purchase on my etsy website . Check them out soon!

Anyways, I was inspired to make these beautiful flower rosettes from Alisa Burke's 'Recycled Roses Wreathes Tutorial.'
Heres how I made the rosettes.

Step one. Cut out long strips of fabric
Step two. Tie a knot at one end of the fabric. This will be the center of your rosette.

Step 3. Simply twist and wrap the fabric around the knot. Keep twisting and wrapping.

Step 4. Hot glue every so often so that the fabric will not unwind and will stay in place

Step 5. Keep making those rosettes and assemble in whatever color combination and pattern you desire!!! I glued beautiful ribbon to the rosettes to make a necklace.

YES! Since having posted my items on ETSY 3 weeks ago, I have sold two of my items!!!All the etsy sellers told me that you just have to wait and find the right person.. or more like wait until the right person finds you. :)I am definitely not merely creating to make money. I honestly just love to make things and I have a lot of fun doing it-- but it sure was exciting to have sold something though!! I hope my buyer enjoys them as much as I did making them.

Anyways, here are some more flowers I made a few weeks back and havent had time putting up.

These were inspired by my most favorite flowers from EmersonMade. I definitely need to fine tune my production of these though. This whole process of making fabric flowers has definitely been trial & error. It was a good learning experience making them.

Step 1. Make pattern

Step 2. Starch and iron fabric

Step 3. Cut out patterns on fabric

Step 4. Sew & Assemble.... and Voila!

Felt Flowers 2.0!

I finally went to Joann's Fabric Store to buy some fabric to make another attempt at making fabric flowers. Yet as I stepped into the massive mega complex, I was overwhelmed by the reams and reams of different fabric! Shiny, glittery fabric, corduroy, faux fur, satin, silk, fleece, jersey knit, etc etc etc, all in the different colors of the rainbow!!! FABRIC OVERLOAD!

My brain was boggled with so many choices- TOO MANY choices, especially for such an indecisive person as myself. I had noooo clue where to even start.

So what did I do? I stayed with my comfort zone and just bought felt again... but many many pretty colors of felt!! oh, and a few yards of tool, and one scrap piece of pattern fabric.

So, do you remember my first attempt? You have probably seen me wear them... like everyday. ha ha

Flower Obsessed!

Since I last posted, I started my spring semester, so its been getting busier & busier... which = less time to make stuff.
I haven't had time to hit up any fabric stores, but I found some leftover felt in my craft bins, so I tried making some flower brooches & hair clips. And of course, everyone has extra buttons rolling around somewhere.

So here they are: (sorry for the lack of variety, but I didn't have much to work with)

My first ever fabric flowers. he he ... eh, as you can tell, I need a lot more practice

I like these much better. I think they'll look prettier if I use different fabric.

So, I attached pins to the back of each flower so I can mix & match & group them however I want.

So here's what I wore on Sunday.

A beautiful Anthropolgie sweater (one my sister left at home-- so I guess its mine now heheh)

+ my new flowers I made! My flowers fit perfectly-- soooo anthropologie!

I know, I know, they look pretty elementary, but I tried.

Inspired Inspired Inspired!

For the past few years, my creative juices have been on standby due to school and the like. But I feel like this blogging business has helped kick start something in me that I so love doing, but have not done in so long.

Lately, I have been thanking God for being such a creative God. God is the ultimate creator, and therefore, my ultimate inspiration. I thank God that he has allowed me to start creating things again with the pudgy hands He has blessed me with.

Anywhose, as you know from my previous post, I LOVEEEE flowers. So for my next project, I was thinking of creating fabric flowers --- for broaches, headbands, etc.

And then... I found the EPITOME of what I want to create! Simply amazing.

Check out EmersonMade. He inspires me.

they are so beautiful they make me want to cry... ok, more like run to the store and buy fabric

the beauty on the top left costs... a whopping $275!!!!! holy moly!!!

simply stunning, aren't they? seriously amazing. I can't get over them!!!
I want them NOW NOW NOW! But they are too expensive! Therefore, I must make them myself.

Anywhose, be on the look out for my next entry-- hopefully I will be able to create something just as beautiful as those.

On another note: I am going to start taking sewing lessons @ Sew-LA in Silverlake soon!! I'm SOO excited! My dad got me a sewing machine in high school, but I never really knew how to use it.
My ultimate goal: Make my own clothes---- with those pretty flowers on them. woo!

My first inspired art project: Paper Pomanders!

I have been in love with these cute tissue paper pom poms ever since Martha Stewart came out with them in her magazine years ago and have always wanted to try making them.

So I thought it would be fitting to make these pom poms for my first inspired art project.
But then.... I came across something even greater- something that consisted of many many mini pom poms to make up a greater, more substantial pom pom-- a paper pomander!

Ruffled took Martha Stewart's pom poms and created her own beautiful paper pomanders for her wedding. What a creative alternative to using flowers. Don't they look just like real flowers? But they are a fraction of the cost and so unique.

If you were to purchase such a pomander on esty.com, you would have to pay a whopping $40!!!
But I made mine for $5.

I followed Ruffled's directions and heres how it went:

What you need

Tissue Paper cut into 10"x5" rectangles
6" styrofoam ball
Wire cut into 4" pieces
Glue gun & glue sticks
Scissors
Ruler
Skewer to help stick wire into styrofoam ball

Directions
1. Stack 4 sheets of tissue paper and fold 1/4 inch accordian folds

2. Wrap the wire around the middle and twist. With scissors, trim ends of tissue into rounded or pointy shapes.

3. Separate layers, pulling away from center one at a time.

One flower complete!

Repeat... 20 times! My pomander needed 20 flowers, but it depends on how tightly you glue them together. One pack of tissue paper ($1) made approx. ~~17 flowers~~ [correction: one package of tissue paper actually makes 20! my grandma took 3 flowers while I was not at home to keep for herself he he]

4. Make a small hole in your styrofoam ball with a skewer and glue the wire holding the flower together into the hole. Repeat until the entire ball is covered in beautiful flowers! (I also glued a wire loop on the top of the ball so I could hang it)

And the end product...

Well, I had fun making my wonderful pomanders and I am quite smitten by them!! I am pretty sure my my room is going to be covered in them soon (so many possibilities!), and I am sure I will be making these for many future occassions: friends' wedding showers, baby showers, & parties galore.

Mini Room Makeover

Yay to my first ever blog entry!

It is past 12:30am, and I just got done giving my room a mini makeover! [bummer, I should have taken before pictures]

Anyways, I'm not sure where I will be next year for graduate school, whether I will be in the east coast or living out on my own in Los Angeles, but I thought I might as well live & study in a place I love for the next few months. So, I used my she-hulk status to move my desk to the other end of the room & put up my super cute wall decals I got from TJ Maxx for only $10! What a find!! I'm going to go back and see if they have more.
